Outcomes

Our project performed its intended purpose while keeping to its simple-to-use, user friendly design principles. We are happy with the final project and would definitely love to improve on it. Some of the areas that we thought we can improve on are:

·         We would use a bigger PCB to include the motor shield, sensor, laser diode driver, and GLCD connection onto one single PCB board. This will save space and make the project smaller in size and more portable.

·         Although the laser sensor is very stable under indoor conditions, it might not function as well under bright sunlight outdoors. One solution is to use a pulsed infrared sensor together with software based ambient light detection. This will improve the adaptability of the device.

·         To make the device more user friendly, we could add password protections to the user interface menu to prevent unauthorized changes to the program. A hard lockable casing for the medication would also be considered for the project, to address the needs of the target population which abuse their prescription by overusing their medication.

To be marketable, the final product would require removable pill containers which were modified to fit in our device. These containers would come with the rotating disc with holes machined precisely to the size of the pill inside them. Finally, these containers would be able to quickly snap on and off the machine without any technical work required from the user.
